It doesn’t seem that long ago that Internet users began grasping for their 15 minutes of fame or peering deeper into issues and people’s lives by harnessing the power of YouTube. In only five years time, YouTube has gone from an interesting social experiment to a pop culture icon and staple in many people’s lives.
You Tube begins “Celebrating Five Years of the YouTube Community” this week. From cats playing the piano to death-defying daredevil stunts to budding musical careers to the regurgitation current events, YouTube is recapping some of the highlights that made many of us, laugh, cry, gasp and raise our fists in protest. YouTube also announced that it has exceeded more than 2 billion video views per day. Beside recounting the history behind YouTube, the Google-owned video website is also launching the “My YouTube Story” campaign and the YouTube 5 Year Channel.
YouTube also created a detailed infographic tracing the sites history. Click on the read more tab after the video to view the infographic.
