YouTube founders Chad Hurley and Steve Chen have purchased the social bookmarking service Delicious from Yahoo for a rumored $5 million.
Are you a Delicious user? What do you think about the recent acquisition?
They will fold the service into a new company called AVOS. The service has promised to preserve user data during the transition as well as add new features. Yahoo is asking Delicious users to agree to let Yahoo! transfer the bookmarks to the new owner before the transition is completed in July.
Prior to the deal, many speculated whether or not Yahoo! would sell the service or let it fade into cyberspace oblivion.
The announcement is good news for Delicious users. AVOS plans to improve bookmark extensions so that they work with Firefox 4.0.
SpringPad reported it had siphoned off more than 2 Million Delicious bookmarks during the period of uncertainty. Google also launched a bookmarking tool so Delicious users could move their bookmarks.
