#GivingTuesday – A new idea on an old thought

 

Around Thanksgiving we have a slue of consumer important days; Grey Thursday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday (can’t believe we haven’t given Sunday a name as well). However did you know there is a “#GivingTuesday?” I have to admit I didn’t know much about it until this morning and the reason why is that today is thegiving tuesdaydebut of this great idea. Some great minds came together to start this campaign in hopes to bring awareness to important causes everywhere and to hopefully land a place on the national calendar. When I say great minds I’m talking about top executives from companies like Skype, Unilever, Edelman, Mashable.com, Groupon and many more companies and organizations. In fact they have more than 2,000 recognized partners across all 50 states who have committed to a project that a 501(c)3 will reap the benefits from. Each organization is in charge of their own initiative – they chose who, what, why and how. That is their pledge to #GivingTuesday. The commercial I saw and their Website encourage people to chose their cause and make a contribution (on 11/27). And, you aren’t limited to money. You can give your time which is some ways is more valuable than money. Once you have committed then you act on it and then share it with #GivingThanks. We at THAT! Company really like the concept. We don’t usually wait for one particular day to give back but plan to fully engage with the movement. We are already kind of doing this with being a drop-off location for Toys-For-Tots and we are giving away 150 Orlando Solar Bears tickets (with a toy donation). We are also looking for a local youth program to donate additional Orlando Solar Bears hockey tickets to. What will you do for #GivingTuesday?
