The influence you have in the social media realm (Facebook, Twitter, and blogs) could have an effect on your virtual shares.

Empire Avenue is attempting to bring social media to the virtual trading floor with a new beta website. You can buy shares of your friends and they can buy and sell shares in you. Members, which the website calls “influencers,” can either sign up as individuals or as a website. Each member even gets to choose their own stock ticker symbol.

Because the website is only in the beta testing stage, members must be invited by other members. Your stock price is determined by reach, activity and engagement across blogs, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and more.

Right now, Empire Avenue is a social media game where users can earn badges and currency bonuses for performing certain tasks. In the future, Empire Avenue’s goal is to connect advertisers and brands with “influencers.” An “influencer,” then, can choose whether or not they want to promote a product or service for a percentage of the advertising revenue.
