There is a lot of information on the Internet. It holds so much information, in fact, that it could fill 1,700 libraries of Congress. That’s a lot of books.
But unlike a neat catgorizing system like the dewey decimal system at a libray, the Web is a Wild Wild West – it’s often hard to make sense out of the information on it.
That’s why many experts in the Internet Industry are still wrapping their minds around the Semantic Web and discussing what it will look like and how it will understand data on the Internet. Many believe the Semantic Web will show users the context and relationships of data on the web, improving the users experience.
Student Kate Ray interviewd researchers, entrepreneurs and other innovators for a 14-minute documentary called Web 3.0. Ray is a journalism/psych majory at New York University who has done extensive research on the semantic web. She interviewed creator of the web Tim Berners-Lee, Hunch.com CEO and inventor Chris Dixon and other experts for the film.
The picture to the right is an ontology. Web onltologies illustrate the connections and relationships of data on the internet.
